Personalising the curriculum for gifted learners

To be presented by

Janet Farrall, Senior Educational Consultant,
Association of Independent Schools, South Australia.

This information session will demonstrate how the Australian Curriculum can be personalised to meet the needs of gifted learners. The use of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) or Individual Education Plans (IEPs) has traditionally been used to cater for student diversity in schools. The new Literacy and Numeracy Progressions published by ACARA in January 2018 will enable teachers to differentiate the curriculum to support students’ literacy and numeracy development. Teachers will be able to locate more precisely the level at which their gifted learners are operating, in order to plan for more challenging learning experiences. Other ways of personalising the curriculum for gifted learners, such as the Continua of the General Capabilities and subject acceleration will be explored.

For parents who are interested in individualising learning for their children, or teachers who are interested in implementing ACARA’s Literacy and Numeracy Progressions to assist gifted students’ progress, this session will provide invaluable advice from one of SA’s most experienced educators.

Time will be allocated for questions following Janet’s presentation, which should conclude at 4pm.

Afternoon tea will be available.
