Gifted Awareness Week
18 - 24 May 2026
Gifted Awareness Week was founded in 2015 by the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented (AAEGT) to raise awareness of the identification, support, learning and wellbeing needs of gifted children, and to celebrate the dedication of individuals and educational bodies who are making a positive difference in the lives of gifted children and their families.
The Gifted Awareness Week 2026
Decades of research has provided us with clear, consistent information on the nature of giftedness, and how to appropriately support it. We know that schools and teachers need to provide learning that is different for these students. Despite this many remain under-stimulated, under-challenged, disengaged from learning, and can struggle with their mental wellbeing.
Over Gifted Awareness Week, we will explore strategies, case studies, and resources to help educators translate policy into practical steps to unlock the potential of gifted learners from every background — urban, rural, advantaged, disadvantaged, neurotypical and twice-exceptional.
We encourage you to engage wholeheartedly — ask questions, spark conversations and build partnerships — so that every child has access to rigorous and relevant learning experiences, in schools and classrooms that are intentionally designed to meet their needs.
