Can’t or Won’t? Gifted Children and the Confusing World of
Seeming Non-Compliance
How can a child who can explain quantum physics, argue like a barrister and remember something you said three years ago be completely incapable of putting their shoes on and getting out the door?
And why do some of our brightest kids avoid anything they might not be immediately brilliant at?
Is it can’t? Is it won’t? Is it a bit of both? And, more importantly, how can we know the difference and how we should respond?
Join Dr Kate Aster to gain insight into gifted and 2e kids, the expectations we place on them (and they place on themselves), what may be happening under the surface of seeming non-compliance - and how we can work with them in order to help them feel more confident to be willing to attempt the things that they want to avoid.
Kate will present prior to the 2026 AGM. You can register by emailing rhiannonlowrey@aaegt.net.au
